Celebrating 25 extraordinary years – the annual Clean Up Australia Day was on Sunday 1 March 2015.
In 2014 more than 572,406 volunteers removed an estimated 15,708 tonnes of rubbish from 7,140 sites across Australia.
“I am very proud to have worked with all of our volunteers over the past 25 years. Clean Up Australia belongs to you; your generosity and passion for the environment have made each annual Day possible so let’s make this year one of celebration and results,” said Mr Kiernan.
“For more than 10 of these years many of us have been focusing our efforts on reducing beverage waste with action around the country to introduce a national container deposit scheme. We are also all getting tired of seeing cigarette butts littering our favourite local areas.”
“While there has been some progress on these fronts there is still so much to be done. So our sights are set on increasing registrations and volunteer numbers in our 25th year, which means we need you to look around your local area – your streets, parks, sporting grounds, beaches, bushland and waterways to find those rubbish hotspots that need attention,” said Mr Kiernan.
“Next step is to put your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues in the picture – working alongside you to make 2015 a year of record achievement.”
