Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone are encouraging people to make the most of the activities planned our for this year’s Australia Day.
Fairfield and Prairiewood leisure centres will hold their annual pool parties as part of the celebrations while Canley Vale Heights Town Centre will hold a pre-Australia day event on Saturday, 25 January.
There will be face-painting, baloon animals and craft activities for the kids to enjoy during the day, as well as a spectacular fireworks display at night.
Cr Carbone said it was important to celebrate the day with family and friends.
“I think Australia Day is more important in Fairfield than other communities because we have a lot of people coming from a variety of backgrounds” he said.
“It really gives us an opportunity to stand up and be part of Australia, and to look at all opportunities it has given to many generations.”
Cr Carbone said the council would hold its Australia Day Community Awards Ceremony tomorrow.
The ceremony will include the presentation of this year’s Fairfield Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sports Achiever, and Volunteer of the Year, as well as the recipients of Australia Day medallions.
The council will also hold a small citizenship ceremony tomorrow, Thursday.
This year members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony which will be held at the council chambers.
Anyone interested in attending should call 9725 0222.
