Liverpool Council will host a special Community Christmas Kitchen in partnership with the Liverpool Community Kitchen & Hub and Inspire Community on Friday 19 December from 12 noon to 2pm at Light Horse Park.
Liverpool City Mayor, Ned Mannoun, said: “the recent visit by our Governor General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove as part of anti-poverty week highlighted the demand in our community for services for those in need. We were inspired by this to host a dedicated Christmas lunch to cater for people in our community who may be less fortunate, to make sure they too have a warm and welcoming Christmas celebration.”
“This event will support people who sometimes feel isolated or alone and encourage social inclusion and engagement in a friendly environment” said Mayor Mannoun.
The Mayor and Councillors look forward to sharing a festive lunch alongside the community in Light Horse Park on the serene river banks of the Georges River.
“Whilst we have big plans to redevelop Liverpool and help this city achieve its real potential, we must not lose sight of those who might not be in a position, for whatever circumstances, to take full advantage of our growing prosperity,” said the Mayor.
Council provides many services and support to those in need in our community, in partnership with a range of institutions including but not limited to Inspire Community Services, Salvation Army, CatholicCare, Liverpool Youth Accommodation Assistance Company and St Vincent De Paul.
“The demand for these services is always strong, especially throughout the Christmas period,” he said.
One of the other local services is the Food for Life Market at Warwick Farm where volunteers provide fresh fruit and vegetables for over 600 active members within the community.
The demand for their services operated in conjunction with Food Bank and the Salvation Army continues to increase and as a result $5,000 has been allocated by Council to assist with this vital program.
