Wanderers season at risk in Adelaide

The Western Sydney Wanderers will put their A-League campaign on the line on Saturday night, when they head to Hindmarsh Stadium for a vital meeting against Adelaide United.

The Reds have been in excellent form this season, with only one loss and two draws recorded in their 8 matches to date, while the Wanderers have only managed three draws from their 8 starts this season.

The frustration from the Wanderers’ fans became evident, when many started to leave a wet Parramatta Stadium before the final whistle on Wednesday night, as the home side slumped to their fifth loss, this time to Brisbane.

Even the 2GLF Football commentary team had their say on the issues being faced, with several suggestions being tabled in recent days as to how Tony Popovic can shake their season into life, following close losses and draws in recent matches.

The Wanderers will need to focus their attention on the game at hand, and somehow find a way to put the ball in the Adelaide net, which will prove to be difficult, as they’ve only conceded 7 goals so far, or less than 1 per game.

The Wanderers’ attack will also need to find some life, with only 6 goals being scored from their 8 matches, which is of a major concern for Popovic, with a long break from domestic duties arriving after this weekend’s match.

Popovic has named his side to travel to Morocco for the Club World Cup, with most key players heading away to represent the club and play against some of the best club sides in world football.

The break could be a help for Popovic, with a 22 day break between assignments in the A-League, and also time off for Christmas, with no more matches until December 28, and a trip to Wellington on the cards.

However, the break will see two more club matches played for all other teams in Australia while the Wanderers head overseas, creating a larger gulf to overcome when they return, which is already a concern for supporters.
