Wanderers aim to soar against Jets

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be aiming to kickstart their season with their first win on Saturday evening, when they host Newcastle Jets at Parramatta Stadium.

The Wanderers recorded their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night against a determined and stubborn Central Coast Mariners outfit at Parramatta.

The game never really reached any great heights, with neither side having many opportunities on goal, and when the opportunities arose, they weren’t taken by the strikers on either side.

Coach Tony Popovic will be hoping his side is able to regroup physically, with only captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley to return to the ‘best 11′ after international duty with the Socceroos on Tuesday night.

Popovic will be hoping his midfield and forwards will be able to have more shots on goal on Saturday, against another team who will believe they can take three points from Wanderland.

Popovic will be looking to see Tomi Juric, Mark Bridge, and Iacopo La Rocca creating havoc on the Jets defensive line and pressure the goal, creating scoring chances across the 90 minutes.

Popovic will also know Phil Stubbins’ men from the Hunter Valley will be no pushover, having lost to the Jets last season at home in an embarrassing effort.

Newcastle will have confidence they can steal the points against the reigning Asian Champions, following a disappointing effort at home to Brisbane last weekend.

Mike Shean and the 2GLF Football team will be live from Parramatta Stadium from 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon for the call of the game, with kickoff at 5pm.

Nick Kutnjak and his crew will be in the studios from 7pm on Saturday night for 2GLF Football, with a full wrap of the match, plus all the latest football news from around the country and around the world.
