Wanderers seek redemption against Mariners

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be seeking their first win of the A-League season on Wednesday night, when they return to Parramatta Stadium to host the Central Coast Mariners.

The match was deferred due to the Wanderers’ performances in the Asian Champions League, with another match to be played on December 3 against Brisbane Roar, bookending a four game run at home.

Western Sydney were disappointing in their 2-1 loss to Perth on Saturday night, and will be ready to bring several key players back into the side, with a youthful team heading to WA last weekend.

With the calibre of Ante Covic, Iacopo La Rocca, Matthew Spiranovic and captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley all watching on, due to international duty and their workload, coach Tony Popovic will be happy with the resources available to him.

Popovic knows they have a busy schedule with four games in short succession, including key matches against the Mariners, Newcastle, a derby against Sydney, and the struggling Brisbane, and will know they need to capitalise on their home run of matches.

Popovic will also be pleased with the introduction of players like Nikita Rukavytsya and Jaushua Sotirio, who made their debuts for the club against Perth last weekend, knowing they can add to the club’s depth during the season.

The Wanderers will be primed for their opponents in Central Coast, who recorded a 2-2 draw with Melbourne City on Sunday, with the Mariners equalising with the last kick of the game deep in stoppage time in Melbourne.

The Mariners have also been struggling with form this season, recording only one win and last week’s draw to date in a disappointing beginning to their campaign.

A capacity crowd should be in attendance at Parramatta as Wanderland returns for the first time, and the club will know the supporters will provide a valuable boost to the team, especially in a tight affair.

2GLF Football will be live online for the match, with our coverage beginning at 7pm on Wednesday night, and kickoff for 7.30pm.

Nick Kutnjak, Matt Connellan and Will Gotsis will bring you all the action from Parramatta, as the Wanderers’ quest for an A-League title continues, on your home for the Western Sydney Wanderers, 89.3FM 2GLF.
