Perth defeated Western Sydney 2-1 in Perth tonight, extending the Wanderers record breaking losing streak. It is the four loss in a row in the A-league keeping the Asian Championship winners at the bottom of the A-league ladder.
The Wanderers fielded a side with a number of key players rested due to a busy schedule with three games in eight days and a number of players backing up from matches in Saudi Arabia and New Zealand. It gave a chance to some younger Wanderers but they were outclassed by a full strength Glory side.
The match started with a cracking pace, both sides played an attacking style of play which gave Dino Djulbic the opportunity to secure the glory a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.
The matched slow back to a more regular pace with the possession remaining equal during the first half, Glory was able to secured the most shots during the half 17-6.
Perth came out strongly at the start of the second half. The Wanderers defence couldn’t keep up with Scott Jamieson scoring his second goal of the season in the 78 minute securing a Glory victory.
In the 88th minute, Perth scored another goal but this time it was an own goal.
Youssouf Hersi, a foundation player of the Wanderers proved troublesome for the Western Sydney setting up some of the key chances for the Glory. It is the first time the two sides have played since Hersi switched to the Glory at the start of the season.
While the Wanderers fans bask in the glory of their recent Asian Championship victory, it hasn’t translated into domestic success and the club will desperate to get their A-league tally started before this time next week.
