“I want to explain to people what cancer actually is and how many people it does affect.”

These are the words of Bossley Park resident Bridget Dutoit and the inspiration behind her starting Bowling for Cancer, a fund-raising event for the 2014 Fairfield Relay for Life.

“I think a lot people donate money to cancer charities and they don’t know why they are donating money,” the 17-year-old said.

“Cancer affects everyone.

“I personally haven’t lost anyone from it but a close family friend has survived cancer twice and is going through the cancer journey again.

“I want to raise money to prevent it and raise awareness about cancer.

“That is why I started the Bowling

for Cancer event and I hope everyone in the community will come and support it.”

The event will be held on Tuesday, October 28 at AMF Villawood.

It’s a busy time for the Bossley Park High School year 12 student. She is juggling HSC commitments, a fund-raising event and her involvement in two Relay for Cancer teams.

Ms Dutoit is also helping to organise the relay and is on the Fairfield youth advisory committee.

“I like being involved and helping make a difference,” she said.
