Fairfield Advance reported that in a short speech made after his election Cr Khoshaba, 44, said he wanted to congratulate the previous deputy mayor George Basha.
“Being elected to any public role is an honour, but to be elected to a position like this by your colleagues is a sign of trust,” he said.
“I look forward to working with you Mr Mayor. for what should be a very productive year.”
Fairfield’s deputy mayor is elected by the councillors in September each year and the person serves a 12-month term.
Cr Khoshaba was elected unopposed at Tuesday’s council meeting.
He has previously served as the Smithfield State Labor MP from 2007 to 2011.
In taking on the role Mr Khoshaba is following in the footsteps of his father, Anwar Khoshaba, who has previously served as Fairfield’s mayor and deputy mayor.
