“If I can just help one kid to not have to lead the same life I had, then I am happy”

CABRAMATTA’S Tony Hoang is living proof that life is full of second chances.

A stained past and dark experiences have empowered Tony to help uplift the troubled youth in Cabramatta. Tony Hoang is the oldest son of the Hoang Family.

Tony believes years of childhood domestic violence and an estranged relationship with his feather led to his involvement in the gangs and heroin. He served jail time for crimes he committed during his teenage years.

“I was one of 10 children in a refugee family with an abusive father,” Mr Hoang said.

“All I really wanted was acceptance and to belong, and the gang offered me that.

“I got what I thought I wanted but it came at a great cost.”

Mr Hoang was almost gunned down by a rival gang at 19 and by 21, six of his friends were dead.

“At that point I knew I needed to change or I would end up dead or in jail again,” he said.
