Chloe Ross (ninemsn) reported that two people have been injured in a gas explosion at a cafe in Sydney’s CBD.

A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed the injured man and woman suffered “flash burns” to their hands and face shortly before 12pm after an apparent gas explosion in the kitchen of The Gardens cafe on Bridge and George streets.

Witnesses reported feeling the ground shake and a horrific smell that followed at the scene, as paramedics wheeled one of the victims from the building wrapped in special burns material.

“I just heard a massive pop. It’s quite scary. Unbelievable,” one witness said.
Both have been taken to hospital and are said to be in stable conditions.
An exclusion zone has been set up in the area.

Drivers have been told to expect delays.
