Wanderers Have Destiny at Their Feet

The Western Sydney Wanderers will face the minor premiers and twice previous champions in Brisbane Roar on Sunday afternoon at Suncorp Stadium.

The Wanderers and Roar have been among the best teams in the A-League across the season, and it seems fitting the sides meet for the title of Australian champions.

The Queensland based side will enter the match as favourites, and will the majority of a 50,000 strong crowd on their side, will be the team to beat when the match begins, but this won’t daunt the side in Red and Black.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic will be pleased with his side’s performance last weekend in their semi final win over Central Coast Mariners, with over 19,000 supporters filling Parramatta Stadium to see their side reach the final match of the season.

Popovic will be sending an almost full strength side to Brisbane, with Mark Bridge unable to overcome an injury and will be watching the match from home this weekend.

Brisbane coach Mike Mulvey also has injury concerns with Dimi Petratos being given until the last minute to prove his fitness ahead of the big game.

Mulvey has been awarded the A-League Coach of the Year award during the week, with Thomas Broich being recognised for his outstanding season with a second Johnny Warren Medal, while Shinji Ono and Linda O’Neill picked up the major awards in the Wanderers’ Medal earlier this week.

All Wanderers players, coaching staff, and supporters, will know the team will need to deliver a complete and comprehensive 90 minute performance to ensure they lift the trophy on Sunday evening, and nothing less will be acceptable.

Ono will be one of several Wanderers players who won’t be donning the red and black next season, with the team determined to send the Japanese superstar and the club out with their maiden premiership.
