Wanderers Aiming For Blue Night in Sydney

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to return to the winners list with a victory tonight when they host Sydney FC in the fifth Sydney Derby at Parramatta Stadium.

The Wanderers’ form has been indifferent in recent weeks, with a shock loss to Wellington on New Years Day starting 2014 in the worst possible way.

Wanderers’ coach Tony Popovic will have had time on his side, and has left Brendan Santalab and Shannon Cole out of the squad for tonight’s match, hoping it can spark another year long run without a home loss.

Popovic will be hoping the expected capacity crowd at Parramatta will be able to lift his side, and provide the support needed to secure the three points tonight.

The fans will also need to be on their best behaviour, following a suspended three point deduction hanging over the club’s head after the recent match with Melbourne Victory. The Wanderers meet Victory in Melbourne on Tuesday night in a deferred match with tensions expected to be high ahead of the match.

Sydney FC will be wanting to continue their good form in recent weeks, however they haven’t won a match west of Sydney Football Stadium since their rivals entered the competition.

Sydney coach Frank Farina will be hoping striker Ranko Despotovic will be able to find the back of the net again and provide more impetus for the visitors heading into the second half of the season.

Will Sydney head east with the Blues, or will it be a Red & Blackout for the home supporters after Derby No.5? Join the 4-3-3 Football team of Curtis Woodward, Matt Connellan and Mike Shean for all the action tonight from 7pm, as the A-League continues on 2GLF.
