Fairfield and Liverpool rail commuters will experience weeks of delays as Sydney Trains takes advantage of the quieter holiday period to conduct its latest round of trackwork. It will be the third time in as many years rail services have been shut down in the local area.
From today, buses will replace trains between Glenfield, Villawood and Fairfield each day until Sunday January 12th. On weekends the shutdown will extend to Macarthur, Granville, VIllawood and East Hills.
Buses will provide a more frequent but slower replacement service between the affected stations and additional buses will run from some stations to Parramatta. Sydney trains is advising passengers to allow an additional 30 minutes to their journey time. Regular services during the week will run on the East Hills line.
Car parking will also be limited at Fairfield station with passengers advised to park at nearby stations.
The $8 million project will focus on commissioning an additional platform at Liverpool station that will allow more trains to terminate and start from Liverpool.
