The Wander Women blitzed the Newcastle Jets to secure a 3-0 victory to end the year on a high.
Kicking off in 40 degree heat – it was going to be a tough match for both sides. Both teams kept a frantic pace regardless of the adverse conditions.
Linda O’Niell opened the scoring just before half time, with her first goal for Western Sydney and the match.
Catherine Cannuli secured the other two goals in the second half, which brings her one goal behind the leader in the Golden Boot standings (for the most goals for the season).
Western Sydney defeated Perth last week by the same 3-0 score line which has meant their goal difference on the ladder has turned positive for the first time this season. They are also striking distance of the top 4, just one point behind.
The Jets also lost against in last week’s A-league match against Western Sydney.
The W-league takes a break for Christmas / New Year next week. The Wanderers travel to Melbourne for a Round 7 clash against the top of the ladder Melbourne Victory.
