The free event will involve a number of athletes, journalists and academics who enjoyed success within industry and now hope to inspire other young women.
A keynote address by Alex Blackwell from the Australian Women’s Cricket Team will explore some of the issues that keep women from thriving as athletes as well as what it is like to be part of a team that now holds three international trophies.
A number of other issues will also be open for discussion including what it is like to parent a young female athlete, body image in sport and the interaction between sport and art.
Earlier today 2GLF’s Dizzy spoke with the Director Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Kiersten Fishburn about the Women in Sport forum and why Casula Powerhouse has gotten involved.
“Currently in exhibition at Casula Powerhouse we have an exhibition called Onside, which explores themes relating to women in sport through contemporary art, ” said Ms Fishburn.
“As a part of complimenting that exhibition we wanted to provide a range of opportunities to talk about women’s sport issues as well and give people the change to engage with some of the current thinking around women in sport so we have developed a two day forum that looks at a number of different themes and brings together athletes, sports journalists and academics in the field to discuss topics that are very potent and relevant to women engaging in sport currently.”
For the full interview with Kiersten go to our ON Demand feature and listen Dizzy Tuesday’s starting at 9am.
